Dr. Howard and Marge Olive

Dr. Howard and Marjorie Olive retired from the foreign mission field to their dream home on Lake Martin in Dadeville, Alabama. However, they soon recognized God’s work for them was not finished. Shortly after moving to Dadeville, they began Bible study in their living room. Outgrowing these facilities led them to begin the process which would lead to the establishment of Lake Martin Baptist Church in 1991. Dr. Olive served Lake Martin Baptist Church as its first pastor until December 1994.

Howard and Marge have devoted their lives to serving God. They began their ministry in Monett, Missouri where their son Doug was born. In 1945, both Howard and Marjorie earned graduate degrees from the seminary; and also welcomed their second son, Tim, into the family. After seminary, the Olives moved to Russellville, Kentucky—site of Howard’s first pastorate and birthplace of daughter, Marjie. Next stop was First Baptist Church in Auburn, Alabama where their membership included 3,500 students—truly a mission field in itself. Daughter Dee also arrived while in Auburn.

In 1955, the Olives were led to the Philippines. They served as Professors in the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary in Baguio City for ten years. It was also at this time that Howard developed the Philippine Baptist Hour which aired on eighteen stations throughout the Islands. In 1963, Howard was asked to move to Manila and set up a mass media ministry in radio and television.

They spent their final five of thirty-two foreign mission years in Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, and the Island of Guam.
